ABSTRACT
The article examines the patient's right to information in the context of the readability and accessibility of medicinal package leaflets. The authors highlight that, although legal regulations require information to be communicated in an comprehensible manner, current practices often fail to meet this standard—especially for individuals with limited cognitive abilities. Latest results of the Programme for International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) study show a significant decline in reading comprehension levels in Poland, which, combined with population aging, creates growing communication challenges in the healthcare sector. The paper emphasizes the need to adopt two communication models: plain language and easy-to-read (ETR) formats, as tools to improve access to medical information. Despite formal readability assessments, medicinal leaflets often remain too specialized and incomprehensible. The article calls for the implementation of ETR and plain language standards in medical documentation to ensure factual equality in access to information and patient safety enhancement.
